The city of Myrtle Beach puts on a whole weekend of events and really great expo. We went last year and overall the event is well organized and everyone had a lot of fun. There's a 5k on Friday night along with a Family Fun Run, Half and Full marathons on Saturday morning, post-race bash Saturday night, 20, 30 and 63 mile bike rides ( not a race ) on Sunday.
Entry is open. Last year it filled for the half marathon in December and for ther full by Jan 1- so don't delay.

There will be folks doing all events and as it gets a little closer we can start a training plan as a group. We won't be hosting any training rides, but contact me ( Leslie) if you want suggestiosn about the local cycling groups.

We'll be carpooling down on Friday afternoon for the expo, leaving Raleigh area around noon. We will plan a group dinner on Friday night. We can stay at the Breakers Hotel again which is where the North Carolina Road runners stay. Hotel details to follow but we will get a great group rate that works out to about $60 for the weekend if you stay in a room with 4 people, book rooms in a block, and enjoy the indoor lazy river, heated pools and the 4 hottubs). We will stay until the bike ride is over on Sunday and then head back to Raleigh to arrive by 7 PM.

well, I didn't start running the half-marathon course until around 10:30 or so, and there were still a lot of people out running. Disappointing that they cancelled the race but as a former South Carolinian, it seems par for the course for MB to overreact completely to the dusting that I saw this morning. Hope to see some of you at the post-race.

Hi all, so sorry the race was cancelled. Hope you got to get out there and run a bit anyway. It was amazing to see so many runners out there. And great to see so many folks supporting us with cheers and handing out water. The party at House of Blues is still on so maybe we'll see you there!

I'm at the sleep inn suites - 5m from start/fin. Will not be in town until 7pm on Fri...6:30 is going to come early and it's looking none too warm. Most definitely plan to be at the post party on Sat.

Is it too late to get in on the group room deal or should I go ahead and book my own place? Jay, what training plan are you following? If you are not following one right now, you could try the Shamrock's suggested first time one: http://www.shamrockmarathon... and adapt it to your needs. I didn't run the Shamrock but I followed that basic plan when I trained for my first one at the Historic Half.

Hey Leslie, Jeremy and I would be interested in sharing a room if you can add us to the list. I will be the only runner so Jer wanted to know if there were others who weren't running that would be there.

Leslie, Thanks, but I'm gonna stick with my reservation at the Hampton Inn. I probably won't join y'all for group activities until after the race. You know me - I like to keep to myself beforehand to focus. :) If training goes well & race day weather is good, I'm gonna try to BQ - but I'll definitely be content with anything under 4 hours!

I have prcing from Breaskers and its $75/ per person 3 to a room, each person gets thier own bed, has a small kitchen with dishes and coffeemaker- its a couple miles to the start but hey you have to warm up right? I am looking into us getting a better rate at the Breakers and will keep everybody up to date on that.
