The Outer Bank (OBX) Marathon MMIX is here:

Are you ready for one of the flattest marathon courses in the US.tongue

This scenic 26.2 miles course is a great event during Veteran’s Day weekend that's not just for runners. The marathon will circuit through some of the area's main attractions: The course begins in Kitty Hawk, passes through the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, the Nags Head Woods Maritime Forest, featuring some of the tallest sand dunes on the East Coast in Jockey’s Ridge State Park; crosses the scenic Washington-Baum Bridge; and ends on Roanoke Island.

  • Other races during this weekend include a half marathon, an 8K on Saturday.
  • Whether you are running or not, you can join in the tradition of loading up on carbs at the Pasta Party the night before the big race.
  • Don’t forget about the marathon post race party
  • The Marathon Race EXPO, which will showcase runners apparel and as well as some art work, music, games, and other entertainment.

Race Number and Packet Pick Up:
Participants must pick up their race numbers, packets and timing chips in person at the EXPO on Friday, November 6th or Saturday, November 7th. There is no race-day packet pickup.
To pick up packets, registered participants must show a valid photo ID or your registration confirmation.

If that is not enough fun, biggrin we have rented a cottage on the beach for the entire weekend (Fri, Sat, and Sun) to celebrate and have a post RTR party, and will also celebrate after the marathon. The beach cottage has 3 bed rooms, kitchen, living room and full amenities. The cottage has being reserved and the total count of members will be released by by 10/25. The price is right and with 2 people sharing per room (everyone gets their own bed) it's around $33 a night plus tax (assumes 6 people). We will car pool from a general location in Cary or the N. Raleigh area, leaving at 4 pm Friday, returning on Monday.

UPDATE

The OBX marathon is two weeks away and the time to confirm the cottage rental must happen REAL soon. Please update your accommodations plans for this event with your RSVP.

This is a very good accommodation deal because the cost for the cottage is $33/night-per person, so this is a very good deal. Even if you are just coming to celebrate, the price is very hard to beat, especially because this is a beach front property. The cottage will have full amenities such as kitchen, washer & dryer, beach access, balcony…etc

These is some of the FUN stuff going on:

- Pre marathon race PARTY, which will include a pasta carb load
- Experience the excitement by supporting the 8K runners on Saturday
- The marathon EXPO, which will showcase runner’s apparel, as well as some art work, music, games, and other entertainment.
- Not to mention the Marathon event will have BEER for those, like me, biggrin who need to carb load after the marathon.
- Post marathon celebration PARTY!

Also, if you know of others who are going or are still contemplating, please let me know, as I’d like to keep the list in check because we will be reaching limits on the rooms.
So please don’t hesitate to RSVP and update your accommodations plans SOON, so we can have a weekend with lots of excitement and FUN the RTR style cool…What ever happens in OBX stays in OBX!!! …LOL. wink

How did everyone like the race? I went up with a friend for the weekend; we ran the half but faded our way to victory. The course was flat and the weather was perfect. The Outer Banks was as nice as I remember. I think I like this one a lot.

There is still room at the cottage but I have to know before Thursday. If I can't get enough folks interested we will need to cancel. Even if you aren't planing on staying for all the nights let me know. We can work something out. We are planning the pasta party the night before and other events so I would hate to give up kitchen.

I have a 6 passenger van with reclining seats for the carpool - leaving Friday and returning Monday. i have talked to a couple people who need to return Sunday who are going so we may need to get 2 carpools. Although I will be staying at a hotel nearby I will be there for the pre and post race events and have space for one person if the cottage is full. There's lot of interest in the evewnt within RTR. It should be a good time.

    •  I didn't get to see anybody from the group, but since it was my first marathon, I wasn't really concentrating on looking for people. I was concentrating more on not dying. I hope everyone did well!
    •  Very fun weekend! Not thrilled with the last 12 miles of the race . Finished 4:45.
